My first impression wearing the Puma Magnify Nitro 2: plush comfort. My impression once I started running in it: that same comfort level, plus high rebound. It’s as if the panther was challenged to create a daily Fitted for runners who want to feel cozy yet fast—and succeeded.

Runner’s World news editor Theo Kahler, who ran a 1:09:53 half marathon in September, was one of our testers who logged mileage in the Magnify Nitro 2.
“Puma got the foam right with this one,” he said. “It’s a great mix between springy and plush. I didn’t feel like it compressed on longer runs during my half-marathon training. ”
Kahler wasn’t the only one who said the Magnify Nitro 2 bested other past testing shoes.
Magnify Nitro 2 vs. Velocity Nitro 2

“They are more flexible and cushioned than the Mizuno Wave Rider. The closest comparison I can make is to the Puma Ermeløs T-skjorte Favorite. But compared to that shoe, these feel better when it comes to arch support and comfort overall. And they are more cushioned than the previous Puma I tested, the Velocity Nitro 2,” he said.
The shoe’s midsole is one thick piece of NitroFoam, a nitrogen-infused TPEE (thermoplastic polyester elastomer) material. The Velocity Nitro 2, in contrast, has one layer of NitroFoam and one layer of ProFoam Lite EVA. The Magnify Nitro 2 weighs almost two ounces more, but we didn’t feel weighed down running in the shoe, and fed off of the higher energy return.
Cushioning for All
Our shoe wear-testing team includes runners of all footstrikes—forefoot, midfoot, heel, and extreme heel. We found the Magnify Nitro 2’s midsole cushioning catered well to all of them. RW’s director of news, Andrew Daniels, is known amongst staff for his exaggerated forefoot strike—which makes him particularly attentive to cushioning and performance at the front of a shoe. Daniels wasn’t disappointed with the Magnify Nitro.
“I’m forever searching for max cushioning at the forefoot without it feeling chunky, and while this obviously doesn’t Top as much cushioning up front as it does out back, it’s plenty firm and keeps my forefoot pain-free, even on downhills,” he said. “No complaints.”
Similarly, tester Emily Roland, who is also a forefoot striker, found the Magnify Nitro 2 comfortable on long runs—even if the shoes weren’t as stable as she would have liked them to be.
“What these shoes lacked in technicality, they made up for in comfort,” said Roland. “I put 20-plus miles on them in one go and my feet didn’t have any major complaints. The midsole felt very soft, light, and energetic.”
Surprisingly Roomy Toebox
One of the most surprising features about the Magnify Nitro 2 is the toebox room. The shoe fits true-to-size around the foot; the saddle and heel fit securely without any constriction or heel slip. All this points to a near-perfect fit—with the exception of the extra toe room. Some testers liked the additional space. Others, like Kahler, would have preferred less wiggle room.
“They hugged my feet well and I have plenty of (perhaps slightly too much) space in the toebox,” he said. “My toes had a bit too much room, although I didn’t notice them sliding around.”

“I really enjoyed the fit of these shoes and I find myself wanting to put these on every time I leave the house,” she said. “They fit perfectly, except for the larger-sized toebox. I felt like my toes were ‘on the loose.’ However, my heel felt cupped and stable when I took turns hard or when I accelerated on gravel.”
As a runner with wide feet and long toes, I legging the spacious toebox during my workouts; I could add an extra mile without worrying about any toe rubbing or blisters.
A Solid Everyday Fitted
The Magnify Nitro 2 is ideal for building base mileage or serving as that go-to shoe for everyday runs. It has a rightful place among the likes of the Brooks Ghost. And, according to Kahler, it even surpasses the Nike Invincible in terms of comfort.
“Really solid Fitted—one of my favorites,” he said. “I like them better than the Nike Invincibles. They’re not as flashy, but they’re super comfortable and do exactly what I need them to—at a cheaper price point.”
