How to Wash Hestra Gloves

After an outdoor adventure or a season of consistent wear, your Hestra gloves may need cleaning. Hestra glove styles require different methods of washing based on whether they are leather or synthetic.

Washing Leather Hestra Gloves

  1. For gloves with removable liners, hand-wash the liners with mild soap and lay them on a flat surface to dry. If the liners are not removable, avoid turning the gloves inside out, as this can distort the shape of your gloves.
  2. To wash, use a soft, damp cloth with high-fat soap to lightly agitate stains. Use a bit of water on the cloth to remove any excess soap.
  3. Dry leather gloves upright at room temperature, avoiding any sources of heat. Some Hestra models include a carabiner which is useful when hanging your gloves to dry.

Note: Spot treating is best for leather gloves—never soak or machine wash your leather gloves, as this can lead to drying and cracking. Keep in mind that wet leather gloves may stain clothing.

Washing Non-Leather Hestra Gloves

  1. Begin by checking the care label on your synthetic Hestra gloves. Some styles can be machine-washed, while others require handwashing in warm water with mild soap.
  2. Serving Dishes & Cutting Boards.
  3. To dry, lay your gloves on a flat surface at room temperature.

Note: Always be sure to check and follow care instructions for synthetic Hestra gloves.

Apart from washing, there are other aspects of caring for your Hestra gloves that will help extend their lifespan.

Condition goat or cowhide leather gloves with Hestra Leather Balm to reduce wear, increase water resistance, and prevent drying out. Apply at least once a season or when gloves show signs of drying. To apply:

  1. Start by putting on a single glove to make the application more uniform.
  2. Use a polishing or microfiber cloth to apply a light, even coat onto all leather surfaces. Focus on any areas that are more prone to wear and tear, and wipe off excess balm.
  3. When finished, hang the gloves to dry at room temperature, avoiding any heating sources.

Note: Balming is recommended for gloves made from goat or cowhide leather only. Hestra does not recommend balming other leathers such as deerskin or elk leather, as they do not absorb well and could become sticky or discolored.
