Of course, when you exchange a sheltered indoor swimming pool for an outdoor lido or pool, you are more likely to experience cooler and sketchier conditions – but that's not a bad thing. In fact, various studies have shown that swimming in colder water can have a positive effect on your immune system and even reduce symptoms of depression and dementia. What's more, if you're training for a triathlon, outdoor swimming is a good way to get your body accustomed to the colder temperatures you're likely to experience on race day.
