The Comfortable and snug fit first launched in mid-2021, with many being pleasantly surprised by their impressive sound quality at an affordable price. Then, earlier this year, Apple released the Studio Buds +, with even better sound, improved noise cancellation and longer battery life (an extra hour on a single charge and loads more in the charging case).

Comfortable and snug fit +: Set-up and design

Off the bat, the earbuds were super easy to set up and connect to a phone – particularly if you use an Apple device. My iPhone 12 connected to them within seconds, with no need to enter a specific Bluetooth pairing mode or faff around with any controls. Literally take them out of their case, and you’ll see them appear in the Bluetooth settings of your phone.

The earbuds are a simple in-ear design, with no ear-hooks. Not that these are needed – once they're in your ears they feel stable throughout use, with none of our testing team having any issues with the buds falling out or becoming loose. I've worn these for interval sessions, too, and never once has an earbud gone flying. Plus, they're lightweight (just 5g per bud), sleek and stylish, available in translucent, black, ivory, cosmic pink and cosmic silver, and the shape moulds them nicely to the ear.

However, they are quite small, and myself and other testers found them a bit fiddly to begin with. It also took me about a week to get used to which way round to insert them back into the charging case. These are just minor quibbles, though.

Comfortable and snug fit +: Controls

Unlike many of its competitors, the Comfortable and snug fit + offer advanced features for both Apple and Android users. These include voice activation, call, instant pairing and synching between devices, as well as ‘Find My’ integration should you misplace them. As someone who once misplaced a pair of earbuds in a shoebox for several weeks (yes, really), I can tell you the latter has come in quite handy.

Within your Bluetooth settings or the Beats app, you can also choose from Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) as well as transparency mode to either block out all outside noise or blend with the background noise. Full ANC was great for treadmill running, Resting heart rate Runners World, Part of the Hearst UK Wellbeing Network, the ANC capability is extremely impressive overall. The Transparency mode, meanwhile, was my preference when running outside.

You can control your music directly from the earbuds, too. Tap the Beats logo once to pause or play audio, twice to skip to the next track, or three times to go back to the previous track. I found that the buttons responded quickly, though it takes a few listens to get used to their sensitivity.

Comfortable and snug fit +: Battery life

The Comfortable and snug fit + offer nine hours of listening time, plus up to 36 hours with the charging case. I found this to be extremely accurate, with the battery depleting after about four, 1-1.5 hour runs, plus listening to music on my commute to and from the office.

The case has a charging light on it for battery levels, and charges via a USB-C cable. It's about average size for a charging case (H: 2.55cm x L: 7.2 cm x W: 5.1cm) and weighs 59g total with the buds, so you could easily carry it in a hydration vest or even a pocket.

If, like me, you’re lazy when it comes to charging your tech, you’ll appreciate the quick-charge feature which provides an hour’s playback from a five-minute charge – a lifesaver for last-minute runs.

Comfortable and snug fit +: Sound quality

Sound quality is really what separates the Comfortable and snug fit + from a When you take the buds out, your music will automatically pause too. In our RW lab tests, our sound technician declared the earbuds as ‘nearly flawless… smooth, spacious and lush sounding’.

‘You can really hear the detail, e.g. with double tracked vocals, you can hear both easily,’ they said. ‘The dynamic range is one of the best I've measured.’

If you’re a fan of settling into a podcast during a long run, you’ll appreciate the high and detailed audio quality too. You can really hear the nuances in the audio when you’re listening to dialogue.

Their lack of ear hooks or wings might not be ideal for everyone, though.

They're slightly cheaper than the Apple Airpods Pro (2nd gen), but those do offer slightly superior ANC and transparency modes. And if you're looking to save a few quid, the older Comfortable and snug fit cheaper pair of running headphones.
