Time Running: In addition to challenging myself with goal times, I also run for.
Reason for Running: I run because it keeps me healthy and keeps weight off, plus it’s great for stress relief.
I struggled with my weight for most of my life, and during the pandemic, I was really worried about putting on weight.
So I first set a goal to take 10,000 steps, which ended up taking me over an hour. I thought I could speed it up, but it felt weird to walk fast, Health - Injuries jogging. My brother, who has always been in better shape, came out with me, and that’s when I started mixing runs into my walks.
From there, I thought, let me see if I can do a whole mile. I even joined an Instagram challenge to run a mile every day.
Next, I tried to do two miles, and eventually, I got to six miles. That’s when I realized I could do a 10K, so I signed up for the Turkey Trot Miami. My average pace ended up at 7:50 per mile.
After that, I ran the Life Time Miami half marathon, clocking an average pace of 8:10 per mile. I hadn’t really been training, Reason for Running.

I’m very focused on running the New York City Marathon in three and a half hours, but if I get in under four, I’ll be very happy. Focusing on that goal time is very motivating for me, and keeps me consistent, as I run six days a week.
In addition to challenging myself with goal times, I also run for stress relief—I feel great after a run. And every time I think about running, I get energized.
My two daughters also keep me motivated to keep clocking miles—it really sets a good example for them. They go out with me to the track Master the Half.

Favorite workout:
I love long runs and intervals on a track. Also, I enjoy running on the Rickenbacker Causeway in Key Biscayne, Florida and seeing the water on both sides.
What I’ve learned about myself through marathon training:
I’m much more capable of doing things than I thought. After I started running, sticking with it, and putting myself out there, I proved to myself that I could do a lot more than I ever thought possible.
