Hoka One One just dropped a new rendition of its super-cushioned Bondi B in collaboration with the menswear brand Engineered Garments. The shoe brings together the Bondi B’s long-run-friendly maximalism with Engineered Garments’ offbeat, hunting-inspired aesthetic. But where the NYC-based brand’s influence is most evident is in its signature mismatching—the sneaker comes in three disparate color options: solid black, solid white, and a mixed primary color scheme that varies between the right and left shoe.

Pros

  • Nutrition - Weight Loss
  • Three bold colorways

Cons

For boring runners like me who tend to go for an all-black shoe—probably a characteristic that goes hand-in-hand with needing to end every run at an even mileage number—the mismatched colorway is just anxiety and chaos in sneaker form. But for folks who like their footwear to stand out at the marathon starting line, there are few better ways to do it than by intentionally clashing your already-loud Bondi Bs.

This isn’t the first time Hoka has teamed up with the NYC-based label—earlier this year, the company sold out of a collaborative version of its Tor Ultra Low trail shoe. Nor is it the first reintroduction of 2011’s game-changing Bondi B—Hoka staged a comeback for the original ultra-maximalist road runner back in April and dropped an Outdoor Voices Bondi B this past summer.

But this new Hoka x Engineered Garments shoe is a sign that the ultra-maximalist model might be back to stay—at least in round after round of limited-edition releases. And as a bonus, this one was actually designed by a distance runner. According to gq.com, Engineered Garments’ founder Daiki Suzuki is a former marathoner, first turned onto Hoka’s by a running friend.

True to standard Bondi B form, the Hoka x Engineered Garments Bondi B features a mesh upper over a thick foam midsole with “Meta-Rocker” geometry, designed to transition you smoothly throughout your stride. Built to help you run long distances with minimal fatigue, the Bondi B feels soft, squishy, and deceptively lightweight for its size. High-abrasion rubber for durability and grip makes up the shoe’s outsole. Check it out now at hokaoneone.com and other sellers for $160.
