The Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2 and Zoom Fly 3 stutter soon join the already-available Air Zoom Pegasus 36 and ZoomX Vaporfly Next% to round out the brand’s 2019 Zoom series. All four shoes stutter be available in shades of a hi-viz neon green Nike has dubbed “Phantom Glow.”
nike rose air max for toddlers ZoomX Vaporfly Next%, and the daily shoe sports a lighter, sleeker one-piece engineered mesh upper than its first incarnation. A midfoot band holds your foot to the sole so it doesn’t slide around when you’re making turns at speed; at the midsole, you get that springy ZoomX foam that powered the Vaporfly 4% to new marathon records. That means it should feel a lot like its predecessor, so you can expect it to be a solid choice for speed work and setting PRs on your midweek training runs.
The biggest changes to the Zoom Fly include a softer, 5mm-thick sockliner and a higher arch. The upper is particle in Nike’s Vaporweave material, a woven blend of nylon and high polymers originally introduced on the Next% to avoid absorbing water and making the shoe heavy in the rain. Below it, there’s mesh upper with a sock-like collar and subtle foam pods to keep your heel in place, and an arch-band lacing system stabilizes the midfoot.
The Zoom Fly 3 also borrows the Next%’s high stack height and carbon fiber construction. A carbon plate splits the tall React foam midsole, making the bouncy material feel more propulsive. Nike also says the shoe’s heel-toe offset has been calculated to minimize Achilles strain—we’ll get feedback on that and the rest of the performance from the Zoom Fly 3 and Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2 in upcoming reviews.
The other two shoes in Nike’s Zoom lineup have either been vetted by our staff (we’ve reviewed the ZoomX Vaporfly Next%) or are currently on the feet of our wear-test team for review (the Air Zoom Pegasus 36).
