Fly tyers 2026

Hi everyone, my name is Steven Shorrock, and I’m based in the UK.

I’ve been tying flies since I was a young lad—around six or seven years old—learning the art of classic wet flies alongside my Grandpop. Interestingly, back then I never actually picked up a fly rod.

For more than 30 years after that, I was heavily involved in the coarse fishing scene. It wasn’t until the COVID pandemic that I finally decided to give fly fishing a proper go—and from the first cast, I was completely hooked. Although I’m relatively new to fly fishing itself, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to learn from some outstanding tiers who have helped shape and develop my tying skills.

My real passion lies in tactical nymphs and dry flies, with a strong focus on functionality, presentation, and fishability.

I’ve had the privilege of tying at several prestigious UK shows, including the BFFI and The Irish Fly Fair. I’m extremely proud to be part of the Fulling Mill Pro Team, as well as serving as their Sales Manager and I’m also an Ambassador for Raidzap.

My main fishing grounds are across Staffordshire, Derbyshire, and Wales. During the trout season, I spend most of my time on rivers such as the Wye, Derwent, Dove, Lathkill, Usk, and Ebbw, targeting wild brown trout and rainbows. In winter, my focus shifts to Welsh rivers including the Dee, Wye, and Severn, where I pursue grayling.

For me, it’s always been about wild fish. That passion has even taken me as far as Bosnia, in search of the elusive four-pounder.

Thanks for taking the time to read—tight lines!
