Sigurberg Guðbrandsson

Fly tyers 2026

My name is Sigurberg Guðbrandsson and I am a 36-year-old father of two. I have been fly fishing and tying flies since I was a kid. I sat in on my first fly tying seminar at the age of seven and have been hooked on it ever since. I started fishing around the same time. I fished a lot with my father and grandfathers. In Iceland we don’t have many species of fish, only salmon, trout, and char. My favourites are salmon and sea trout (sea-run browns). My favourite patterns for salmon fishing are tiny salmon flies. I focus most of my tying on them and the Green Brahan longtail is at the top of the list, a great fly for bright and sunny days. Dry flies are my winners for sea trout and a Daddy Longlegs is my go-to fly. My favourite river is the Laxá í Kjós that I guide on during the summer. I started fishing there when I was about 10 years old, have fished it every year since, and have been guiding on it for the last 14 years or so. It’s a “small” clear river that can be quite technical to fish as it gets low and clear. Stealth and precision are key to a good day.
