Today, water management is much more than just maintaining stocks – it is active nature conservation and strategic future planning. Under the motto ‘The future in the River, the Upper Salzkammergut fishing district is presenting ‘Ways to modern, ecologically oriented management’ at this year's special exhibition.

Shaping the Habitat
We place the ecosystem at the heart of our activities. Through targeted renaturation, structural improvements and a strong voice in hydraulic engineering projects, we are consistently campaigning against further development of our waterways. Our goal: functioning habitats in which native fish fauna can thrive naturally.

Dynamism through Innovation
For us, ‘Everything is in the River’ means continuous development. We rely on contemporary strategies instead of rigid patterns. This is particularly evident in our own fish farming and modern stocking methods: from protecting local populations and establishing healthy age pyramids to innovative approaches such as cocooning and artificial nests – we use the entire spectrum of modern ecology.

Joining Forces: Strong Networks for Strong Waters
Healthy waters need many allies. We are convinced that only through close cooperation can big goals be achieved. The joint effort in 2021 proved that this works: thanks to the support of a courageous landowner, with the help of an opinion leader, the local population, the ÖKF fishlife, River & Nature Trust, countless local associations and many dedicated (fly) fishermen, the construction of a power plant on the Upper Traun was prevented. This network – supplemented by partners such as the EWF – is the backbone of our work.

Responsibility for Generations
There are many small adjustments we make to preserve the delicate balance of the Upper Traun and its tributaries in the Salzkammergut. We invite you to discover at EWF 2026 how we combine tradition and progress to keep our unique waters flowing for future generations.
