In the previous episode of The Amazing Runner’s World Show, Aly admitted to running “on vibes” and not paying much attention to heart rate. So Jeff tried to convince her to give it a shot and to understand her ideal heart rate zones. There are real benefits to paying attention, because it can help inform how hard you’re working—for example, doing a workout on hilly terrain where pace isn’t as insightful. Modern GPS watches have gotten much better at measuring your heart rate but still can’t beat a chest strap, which Jeff will wear for workouts. RW+ members can watch the full episode now.
