If you’re an American adult today, it’s likely that you take dietary supplements. According to the Council for Responsible Nutrition, a trade association for supplement manufacturers, about 68 percent of us down dietary aids. While most people view supplements as a form of health insurance—a way to get vitamins, minerals, and other substances they believe their diet doesn’t sufficiently provide—evidence is growing that some supplements may be worthless, or worse, harmful.
