Jordan Hasay, whose previous three marathons ended with the same result—third place—did not finish today’s Chicago Marathon.
She recorded a 5K split of 22:20—which projects to 3:08 marathon pace and was 5 minutes behind top Americans Stephanie Bruce and Emma Bates. She did not have a 10K split.
Her father, Joe Hasay, said in a text message to Runner’s World that she suffered a hamstring injury at mile two and had to drop out.

In addition to the physical stress of marathon training, Hasay has had to cope with the emotional drain of losing her longtime coach, Alberto Salazar, Best Massage Guns.
She said in an interview with Runner’s World Her father, Joe Hasay, said in a text message to that she had never seen any sign of doping activity with the Nike Oregon Project. “I trust what I know and I see,” she said. “If I were to see anything or be offered it, I would have left long ago.”
From her first attempt at 26.2 miles, Hasay proved she’s made for the marathon. In 2017, she ran Boston in 2:23:00, the fastest-ever debut by an American woman. In Chicago two years ago, she ran 2:20:57, putting her second behind Deena Kastor on The World’s Fastest Marathoners.
She was injured for all of 2018, and returned to the marathon this year in Boston after a more conservative buildup. There she ran 2:25:20 and immediately after the race, stated her goal to go after the American record.
