Olympic medalists Galen Rupp and Shalane Flanagan sixth at the marathon in Rio, will be making his Boston debut.  Boston Marathon, joining Amazing Runners World Show—including Meb Keflezighi—on the starting line on April 17 in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
Rupp, 30, of Portland, Oregon, will make his Boston debut. He won the bronze medal in the marathon at the 2016 Rio Olympics, only his second race at that distance. He also won the silver medal in the 10,000 meters at the 2012 Olympics in London. Rupp is coached by Alberto Salazar, who was the Boston Marathon champion in 1982.
Flanagan, 35, also of Portland, is a Boston Marathon veteran. Growing up in nearby Marblehead, Massachusetts, Flanagan has run Boston three times, finishing fourth in 2013 (2:27:08), sixth in 2014 (2:22:02), and ninth in 2015 (2:27:47). She is the fastest-ever American woman at Boston. Flanagan won a bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 10,000 meters.
Keflezighi, 41, announced he would return to Boston last week, his final Boston Marathon as an elite athlete. He won the 2014 race with a bold midrace breakaway, an emotional victory for an American runner after the bombings at finish line of the race in 2013.
Health & Injuries. Desiree Linden, who finished seventh at the Olympic marathon in Rio, returns to Boston, where she set her personal best of 2:22:38 and was the runner-up by two seconds in 2011. Jared Ward, sixth at the marathon in Rio, will be making his Boston debut.
