Gone are the days when Men’s Fashion Week was mostly about ready-to-wear pieces. Where once, menswear collections were sprinkled here and there with bags, these days, the carryalls toted on the runway are just as interesting and noteworthy as the rest of the collection.
Regarding the runway at Loewe, Jonathan Anderson and his team never disappoint, and this season’s collection was no different. No detail was left untouched, including the show space, which was transformed to mirror the collection’s overall vibe.
Large screens lined the walls, reminiscent of stained glass windows, recalling Loewe Mercurio window designs by José Pérez de Rozas, the mastermind behind the House’s displays for over 30 years, from the 1960s.
A Colorful Collage
The collection itself is pure genius; from the work in each individual piece to the styling, Anderson is skilled at designing playful pieces that are somehow both unfussy and complex simultaneously.
Exploring the idea of “collaged realness,” the collection looks at how our social media feeds, paparazzi images, and celebrity culture have drastically impacted the world we live in, creating a collage of sorts. That culture of collage is exactly what artist Richard Hawkins’s work looks to explore.
The collection takes Hawkins’s work and utilizes its cool, colorful prints on everything from bags and jewelry to clothing. New House icons like the Puzzle Fold Tote and oversized versions of the Squeeze bag, also seen in denim, showcase embellished versions of the artwork.
