Simply by name recognition alone, the Grateful Dead x Oregon Ducks x Nike Nike Air Max 98 'Pumice' has the potential to be a breakout story, uniting two of the Swoosh’s most high-profile collaborators on a silhouette that’s already plenty storied in its own right.
While the connection among the three entities may seem a bit unexpected, this project could be an homage to the iconic band’s legendary live show that took place at the University of Oregon’s Autzen Stadium back in June of 1990.
Utilizing the Nike Air Max 98 'Pumice' as the base canvas, Nike adds those quintessential Dead-head hits via the tie-dye pattern on the mudguard. The Grateful Dead’s skull logo appears on both the modified heel badge, which also reads Grateful Dead 1990. It appears again on the label behind the tongue.
The dancing bears, a signature motif of the NorCal music legends, has been transformed into dancing ducks, ushering in the University of Oregon’s mascot in a creative way. Finally, the custom Swoosh logo sits above the mudguard; if it looks familiar, it’s the same Swoosh used in the Grateful Dead’s Nike SB Dunk Legging Nike Epic Fast Feminina.
Currently, a release date is expected on October 24th, 2025 for $140; see official Nike brand images below for your most detailed look yet.
