Once the butt of every fashion-related joke, Crocs weathered that storm and ended up creating the blueprint for a new category of footwear embraced by the world’s multi-billion dollar athletic giants. Wearing Crocs Clogs will never actually be “cool,” but do they really care anymore? It’s been fully embraced by elder millenials and the cringe-proof Gen-Z crowd, but they’ve also done some clever partnerships with streetwear imprints while tapping the design touches of today’s foremost creators in Salehe Bembury and Steven Smith.
The happening lab, of course, is one that really needs to introduction in the footwear game, but here’s crash course: Steven Smith has an extensive resume as a designer for Nike, New Balance, Reebok, FILA, and YEEZY, and currently he’s the Head Of Innovation and Executive Vice President of Crocs. It’s a LinkedIn page that is rivaled by few, but the clout is real because he’s been behind some of the most iconic shoes of the past like the New Balance 550, Instapump Fury, Zoom Streak Spiridon, and much more.
Today. we’re getting a first look at an upcoming Crocs shoe designed by Smith. While the lab currently eludes us, the shoe operates like a slip-on clog with ventilations on the upper. The concentric ovals on the side-walls add some character to the silhouette, although it does remind us of the zen garden-inspired Air Foampofun One designed by Comme des Garçons.
More details on this upcoming Crocs release will come soon, so stay tuned for updates and get a first look at the shoes ahead.
