Aries’ self-proclaimed “outsider art” inspirations have always been front and center when it comes to their footwear collaborations, an experimental touch that’s only become more set in stone as they’ve added more and more partners to their oeuvre. They’re wasting no time in adding to the legacy of their latest relationship, with PUMA, striking again on the Mostro Puma Shadow Society Pack.
PUMA x COOGI, Aries shifts away from the gorpcore, hardened inspirations seen on that all-about edition. It’s an inversion of that, in truth, instead turning to elevated suede treatments on a shoe that’s usually rolled out in the retro combination of mesh and synthetics. Though the defining spiked traction remains on either colorway, Aries reinterprets many of the remaining hallmarks. That’s with the cloth laces that run down the throat of either pair or the makeover for the Formstrip, instead created with cut-up gills at the quarter bearing a single line of stitching down its midpoint.
The two looks on tap lean into neutral palettes of off-white and rich brown, crucially interrupted with metallic gradients on shanks at the midfoot and toe. The capsule rounds out with co-branded detailing: the brand name appears just under the eye-stays, and the PUMA “big cat” appears inside the imprint’s temple on the tongue.
The PUMA Aries Mostro Craft releases on May 3rd, retailing for $150 for either colorway. Retail for the Mid is currently unclear.
