Jared Ebanks Updated November 8th, 2023: Less than a week after announcing that he was signing with Reebok, two-division world boxing champion Shakur Stevenson recently previewed an all-new performance running shoe from the brand – the Reebok Float Zig 1, which is set to arrive in 2024. Building off of the prominent flex grooves that adorned the Reebok Zig Kinetica 2.5, the low-top silhouette mesh and textile tong sit atop the latter’s chunky sole unit featuring an elongated heel.
Once a staple across various sporting and lifestyle avenues in decades past, Reebok has been preparing a strategic revitalization over the past few months. Headlined by positioning Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson as the President and VP of Reebok Basketball, the Boston-based brand has since announced the latest signing to its growing roster of endorsers in two-division world boxing champion Shakur Stevenson.
While the aforementioned signing won’t be signaling an official return to the sport by the brand, Reebok will however be outfitting Stevenson in a custom mid-cut version of the Reebok Boxing Boot High that was iconized throughout the 2000s. Boasting a breathable ballistic mesh tong, the prototype model is supported by microsuede overlays, an ankle strap and a heat-molded heel counter. Underfoot, a gum-coated outsole is complemented by a litany of branded embellishments that appear welded to the lateral and medial sidewalls while the boxer’s “SS” initials are Short along the heel.
The recently announced partnership is set to build anticipation for Stevenson’s November 16th bout against Edwin De Los Santos for the WBC Lightweight title. The Newark, New Jersey native joins the brand’s burgeoning athlete roster alongside LSU forward Angel Reese reebok royal casual.
While we await the appearance of Stevenson’s custom boxing boot in a few weeks, Reebok and the boxer have curated a collection of his favorite footwear, apparel and equipment titled “Move Like Shakur”; which is currently available.
