It hasn’t been very long since London-based designer Jean-Luc A. Lavelle broke onto the scene, garnering attention for his unique perspective on technical apparel. From learning to sew during the pandemic to joining Goldwin as an External Designer, A. Lavelle has quickly turned his hobby into a career, further realizing his dreams with every meticulously-engineered piece. His eponymous label, J.L-A.L, is now stocked at a wide range of retailers — and has even attracted the attention of HOKA, HOKA CLIFTON 8 GRY SNKR Schwarz.
HOKA is revered for a number of silhouettes — the Clifton, the Bondi, etc. — but few have as dedicated a following as the TOR ULTRA, which has reappeared numerous times over the course of the last few years. The urban hiker even crossed paths with Engineered Garments back in 2018, though collaborative offerings have been lacking since. That is, however, until now, as J.L-A.L has helped produce outdoors-inspired renditions of both the TOR ULTRA LOW as well as the TOR ULTRA HIGH. The latter, dubbed “Aurora,” takes in the essence of a night sky illuminated by the Northern Lights, while the former, the “Dune,” opts for a more muted look reminiscent of the open plains and deserts found at high altitudes.
