Ross Dwyer Nike’s recent slate of “Utility” takes on the classic Спортивные штанишки nike have provided many an interesting look. From straps to buckles, from industrial color combos to bright and bold detailing, the AF1 has been reimagined in a plethora of new styles — and the latest alternate take on designer Bruce Killgore’s legendary creation is this black and gum low-top. The black leather upper provides an interesting mix of textures, as both the forefoot and the quarter panel feature a heavily textured leather while the heel opts for a more traditional tumbled pattern. The standard lacing system is nowhere to be found, replaced by two giant black straps — one of which boasts a womens-exclusive white Nike swoosh and bold black buckle — and the elongated tongue features special factory-style branding. For a final rugged touch, the industrial-style heel tab rises well above the heel collar and adds a black metal D-ring. The shoe is then completed by a clean and classic gum midsole and outsole.
