ROYCE New York Executive Overnight Duffel Bag | The 11 Essential Logo Bags of 2018

The most interesting examples of the year's biggest, most undeniable bag trend

Logo bags bring out a lot of strong opinions on both sides, which is actually what makes them a great trend: you can’t help but notice a sudden influx of them, and when it happens, almost everyone has a strong emotional response. That some of those responses are negative is beside the point, and for the combative among us (me), it actually makes carrying a logo bag even more fun.

The logo look has been resurgent for a while now, and we’ve reached a point where even brands that have no history of monogrammed bags are trying their hands at the trend with varying levels of success. Below, we take a look at nearly a dozen high-profile logo bags and how they fit into the market right now.

Balenciaga Wheel Belt Bag
$895 via Net-a-Porter

The combination of a big logo and one of the year’s other biggest trends—the fanny pack—makes this piece the platonic ideal of summer 2018 handbags, whether you like it or not.

Céline Made In Tote
$1,500 via Céline

Phoebe Philo has never been one for logo bags, but in her final collection at the brand, Céline released one: a simple tote with a blown-up marker of the Made In Italy stamp that all its bags bear.

Dior Saddle Bag

The logo trend is a mid-2000s throwback, and the Dior Saddle Bag in Dior’s signature print is the clearest illustration of that nostalgia.

Fendi Runaway Small Tote
$2,590 via Neiman Marcus

Because Fendi moved away from its logo print for a few years, its new emphasis on it also feels nostalgic, but in this case it’s on a decidedly 2018 shape.

Nielsen School Bag

Goyard Cap Vert Bag
$2,070 via Goyard Boutiques

Goyard’s bags have long been used and enjoyed by plenty of people who find most logos too in-your-face for their tastes, which means their popularity actually increased during the years that most logo bags were on a sales decline. Now that those other logos are back, Goyard’s is still, somehow, more popular than ever. Impressive, huh?

the Loewe Puzzle bag

Gucci Guccy Mini Shoulder Bag
$1,790 via Gucci

Gucci helped hasten the return of the logo look, and it’s the brand that’s gotten the most creative in using its name and logo in fun, different ways.

Loewe Vertical Fringe Tote
$1,890 via Nordstrom

Can brands without famous logos still cash in on the logo craze? This is the year we find out.

The Tall Story tote-taske

Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis bag
$1,830 via Louis Vuitton

Along with Gucci, a newly vibrant Louis Vuitton under a new designer has also hastened the return of logos, and now the Pochette Metis, one of the brand’s most popular bags, is basically impossible to buy without making friends with your local sales associate.

MCM X Mini Stark Side Stud Backpack
$670 via Nordstrom

MCM doesn’t get as much credit in the return of logos as it probably deserves—its throwback print preceded the Gucci and Louis Vuitton resurgences, and seeing it in pale pink made me think I could love a logo for the first time in a long time.

Prada City Calf Bowler Bag
$2,390 via Nordstrom

Prada’s famous logo plaques are a little too subtle to really seize the mood of current logo trends, so the brand is trying something new, and far bolder.

Valentino Rockstud Spikes Shoulder Bag
$2,895 via Net-a-Porter

Like Prada, Valentino faces the problem have not having a longstanding logo print for which people can be nostalgic, and it’s trying to navigate that problem by creating something thoroughly modern.

Doesn’t Valentino realize that the studs are their equivalent of a logo…?

Yeah, is that supposed to be fun or something? I logo-buckle many of Phoebe Philo’s bag designs but I just don’t get this one… If it’s not a “joke”. And even then… Eh?
