Denim is back, baby! I don’t know about you, but I love a quality denim accessory – and in the last few weeks, I’ve taken note that many designers must feel the same way. Just look at this denim version of Louis Vuitton’s Multi Pochette.
From Prada and Fendi to Saint Laurent and Chanel, there’s enough denim to satisfy even the pickiest of shoppers. In fact, I never even considered purchasing a denim (or fabric) bag until I saw some of these picks.
I know, I know: I said I wouldn’t be buying new, full-priced bags this year and I still stand by that. However, if that were to change, I must admit one of these bags could easily become the lucky winner. Specifically, the Chanel Denim & Silver-Tone Metal Large Flap Bag or the small Scalloped tote bag Braun. Ugh, I wish I wasn’t so drawn to them. There’s just something edgy, classy, and chic about them, all at the same time.
Spending thousands of dollars on fabric, especially denim, seems a bit much, though. I know the craftsmanship of many of these bags can somewhat justify the price, however, for me, it would be difficult to drop that amount of money on a non-leather good.
Which one catches your eye? What’s your opinion on spending big for fabric bags, denim and beyond?

I like denim handbags in theory. I own one, but it’s going in the giveaway pile. It’s beautiful, but it ruined one of my t-shirts with dye transfer. It never even occurred to me to wear a dark shirt with the bag.
That’s why I’m here. I wanted to know how to wear them. Somehow denim bag screams summer to me, worn with white, but the thought of transfer stopped me in my tracks. I guess that would be a no, unless they do have the look of denim but are coated for protection.
My first thought was…I expect the price of a bag to reflect the quality of materials, not just the workmanship and design. Then I realized I have two coated canvas bags and wonder if this is any different. But I wouldn’t buy canvas unless it were coated because it’s difficult to clean and keep clean. Plus, it’s not as durable so I wouldn’t buy a denim bag for those same reasons. Also, I wear a lot of denim so it would look costume-y or too matchy. Leave it.

Do you own any Chanel bags? You previously posted a picture of your bags that showed 2 Hermes and 1 LV. (I recall this because there was a lively debate, about a year or so ago, about the increase in Chanel prices; it was there that you posted pix of your bags). Just curious, nothing more or less.

I have a small denim Chanel. I love it. I got it to dress up my jeans a little when I go out in the evenings and jeans are acceptable. I live in Dallas so that situation arises not infrequently. I’ve not had issues with wear and tear, but it’s an occasional bag for me. I think it’s a nice addition to a large purse collection, but probably not the best choice if you keep your collection small. It’s very specific.
I love your comment. I agree, if your collection is small then only go for denim if you really love it! It depends on the shade of the denim, but you can pair it with so many things; Ive seen it paired with a red lace dress and it was fabulous. Different textures to an ensemble makes it so different, interesting and fashion forward.
I have one from Gucci from one or two years ago? They were exclusive to Japan which is where I lived for a bit and the bag reminds me of all the memories 🙂

Generally, I would say no. But these aren’t bad. And Prada has cleverly protected the corners of the bag where it would most likely wear first. So while I still wouldn’t buy them, they are intriguing. But I would love it if Prada would make that bag in the same color leather (or suede) with the same contrast stitching and metal trim. Now THAT I would say yes to!
Let me just dye my hair blonde, tease it up about five feet and slap some bubblegum lipgloss on before we go to the mall!
