Memorial Day is just around the corner, which means summer is (unofficially) here. While the summer solstice officially begins the summer season, Memorial Day in NYC means the start of rooftop season, summer Fridays, and cocktails al fresco.
Of course, this means I’ve started to plan all of my summer outfits. While I’m excited to wear all of my favorite pieces from last year, I want to add a few new pieces to my rotation.
Below are four items I’m looking to add to my closet before summer ramps up!
A Vintage Designer Bag
My handbag goals the last couple of years have been to shop more mindfully, and add more vintage bags to my rotation! One vintage bag I keep returning to time and time (and time) again, is the Loewe Amazona bag.
At any given time, I have at least four of them in my TRR favorites, but someone always snatches them up before they get down to the price I want to spend. What can I say? I’ll spend $10 every day on a cold brew with oat milk, but I’m forever waiting for an extra 10% off and free shipping—le sigh.
I remain on the hunt for the perfect GG Marmont small shoulder bag in Lilac, and as I’ve been incredibly mindful about shopping within my means, not using my credit card, and saving for the things I want, this might be the summer I’m ready to commit.

Longline Shorts
I bought a pair of Ganni longline crepe shorts a few summers ago that were on super sale from the Outnet. This was long before the silhouette was as trendy as it is now.
I wear them way more than I ever imagined—with tights and high boots in the fall and winter, and dressed up or down in the summer. I love the silhouette, so adding another pair to my rotation is a must this season.
Plus, there are more options than ever. I’d do a denim or maybe this relaxed linen pair from STAUD in orange—I love a bold-colored moment!

An Oversized White Button Down
A good oversized button-down in crisp white or a classic stripe is a wardrobe staple. It has so many uses and can be worn so many ways. My favorite button-down, one that is both the perfect fit and high-quality, is a blue striped vintage Brooks Brothers shirt it perfect condition I got from an LA flea market.
From my research, I’ve dated it to the 90s, and if I could find the exact one in perfect condition in white, I would. Trust me, I’ve tried, but I’ve yet to succeed.
I’m ready to splurge on a higher-quality button-down that doesn’t wrinkle with one movement like the boyfriend fit Gap one I’ve been wearing for years. I’d size up in this one for a more oversized menswear-like fit.

Kitten-Heel Thong Sandals
The most controversial item on my want list is probably kitten-heeled thong sandals. The minimalist, ultra-90s silhouette feels so chic and easy to wear. It’s the kind of thing you either love or hate, and I’m so clearly in the love camp.
The thing is, I can’t wear a true thong sandal because of how one of my feet healed after having foot surgeries a decade ago. Toteme has a version with a toe slot versus the traditional thong sandal, which is perfect for me.
These were sitting in my Farfetch cart in black, but quickly sold out, and now I can’t seem to find them in stock anywhere else.

That Loewe Amazona is from the era of Suart Vevers (now in Coach)
Stuart Vevers was 2 year old by the time the Amazona model was first release so he certainly could not be involved.
The Amazona model was created in 1975 and at that time Loewe did not have a creative director position as it is defined today. It means this iconic model does not have a publicly known name to identify the designer or creative authorship. It was supposed to be a team work from the people in the brand at that time.
I think you don’t know what I’m actually saying. And instead I realise that you know a lot about Loewe’s history.
