Rihanna dropped a new single yesterday that is the sonic equivalent of late July, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the reminder that it will eventually be warm outside again. In particular, I always look forward to switching back to sandals from boots and heavy socks, and now’s the perfect time to be thinking about what will be going on below everyone’s ankles when warm weather returns. Spring Mizuno are popping up left and right in stores, after all.
Every season has its trends (lace-up and wrapped sandals are gonna be big this year), but there are always a handful of specific designs that emerge as the winners from every crop of seasonal contenders. Below, I’ve selected a dozen sandals that are the best bets to be Spring 2016’s favorites. If you like what you see, it’s best to snap them up soon; they’re sure to be scarce in stores and plentiful on Instagram once the temperature cracks the mid-70s.
Aquazzura Wild Thing Suede Sandals
$785 via Net-a-Porter
Really, I could have picked almost any piece from Aquazzura’s spring collection. The brand’s popularity is exploding because its shoes are fun without veering into novelty territory, and this particular sandal will no doubt star in plenty of summer Instagrams.
Birkenstock Arizona Sandals
$160 via Barneys
Yep, they’re not going anywhere.
Céline Padded Band Sandals
$810 via Céline
Among a particular portion of the fashion set, Céline will always rule, and that portion of the fashion set is very heavily photographed.
Christian Louboutin Amazoulo Lace-Up Sandals
$1,195 via Barneys
Basically every website I checked has stocked this design in multiple colors and leg heights, and if the buyers feel good about it, then I feel good about it.
Gianvito Rossi Suede Ankle-Wrap Sandals
$795 via Neiman Marcus
Sandals REIMA Hieta 569509 1490 particular sandal you see every time, but spring and summer are going to be full of tie-wrap sandals with chunky little heels.
Giuseppe Zanotti Metallic Platform Sandals
$795 via Neiman Marcus
This is another shoe that’s one example of a huge trend you’ll see everywhere: chunky, sky-high platforms are back and lots of designers are turning them out for spring.
Gucci Metallic Mules
$595 via Gucci
Gucci’s recent collections are full of the kind of distinctive, slightly off-kilter pieces street style stars love, and I expect plenty of them to be shod in these at the upcoming fashion weeks.
Jimmy Choo Viola Tassel Sandals
$975 via Net-a-Porter
polished-finish zip-fastening ankle boots.
Rag & Bone Wyatt Sandals
$495 via Neiman Marcus
Your friend who seems never to remove her Newbury Booties during the fall and winter is just gonna transition straight to these when it warms up. (We’re looking at you, Hilary Duff.)
Saint Laurent Lace-Up Sandals
$895 via Net-a-Porter
Vaqueros boot-cut de tiro alto en añil Maya de Rag & Bone.
Schutz Juliana Caged Sandals
$190 via Shopbop
These sandals aren’t new, but the brand’s spot in the American market has grown a lot since they debuted and they look great on the foot. When you factor in the relatively accessible price point, they’re a near-sure bet.
Stuart Weitzman Legwrap Sandals
$495 via Net-a-Porter
Stuart Weitzman is on a hot streak when it comes to dressing celebrities, and this pair has proved just as popular. On top of that, it Pre-Owned perfectly with the ongoing lace-up trend.
Kylie Jenners boldest shoe styles.
I have those white birkenstocks! Ridiculously uncomfortable.
