As if traveling wasn’t fun enough to begin with, fashion has gone and found a way to make it even better: Nancy Gonzalez luggage.
Launching yesterday exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City, Gonzalez now makes a line of suitcases and small travel accessories in her company’s signature crocodile skins. Manufactured to be excellent lightweight luggage in addition to being utterly luxurious, the collection includes items all the way from passport holders to iPad cases to rolling suitcases, priced between $400 and $8000. Vanity luggage is bizarre to me. I can understand the concept, but why make it more appealing to thieves? Perhaps smaller pieces that wouldn’t change hands – but I still wouldn’t like to risk it. That said, the luggage here IS beautiful.
A little clarification about the skin. Technically, it is not crocodile, but Caiman (Latin: caiman fuscus). Quality-wise, it is not as pliable as alligator, or African crocodiles (Nile, New Guinea), or crocodile Porosus. Thus, large luggage pieces won’t take wear abuse well. Yes, they’re pretty, but not practical, especially for the price. All that said, I love Nancy Gonzalez Spring 2011 handbag collection. Very festive!

I try to keep a low profile when I am traveling. Why draw so much attention and make yourself a magnet for thieves? Not to mention they way they toss luggage. They are beautiful but does not make sense to me.

Very pretty, but totally impractical. They’ll get wrecked! I never understood how someone could actually use “luxury” suitcases, like LV’s luggage. I’d be terrified that they’d get ruined or worse, stolen, with everything inside too!
