If you didn’t see True Grit when it came out last year, it may be difficult to understand why the world is suddenly so taken with 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld, but trust me on this one: Go see the movie, because not only is it great, but she will blow you away. And if the Miu Miu Fall 2011 ad campaign is any indication, she’ll be continuing to impress us all for the foreseeable future.
I like these ads for a variety of reasons: Unlike the similarly young models that are often used in fashion, Hailee looks her age in these photos and it seems as though the Miu Miu team took great care to ensure that they didn’t tart her up too much. The clothes, shoes and accessories are fantastic. Bruce Weber shot the images, and you can’t Fashionly go wrong with him. The ads don’t feel too precious or serious, which makes them all the more enjoyable. Mostly, they just make me want to don some Miu Miu and go buy the True Grit dvd, which is likely the effect that both Miu Miu and Steinfeld hoped they would have. More images after the jump.

I like these images. I agree that she looks her age but, at the same time, she seems to be playing dress up in her mother’s clothes. How can a grown women, with a budget to buy Miu Miu, find that appealing?
To the comment above me… I’m sorry, but last time I checked Miu Miu was the younger version of the Prada label. Keyword… YOUNGER!
Last time I checked, adolescents were not the core base of Miu Miu. A twenty-year old is a grown woman, but a fourteen-year old is not.
You have missed my point. Why should products that cost four figures be marketed to “grown women” using fourteen-year old girls? This is quite prevalent in the fashion industry. You don’t see fourteen-year old boys hocking products to adult males.
You seem to have missed the advertisement’s point. In. Andrex ads a Bolsos sells it, but no one complains its not for Bolsos’s.
Also, its not only ‘twentyyearolds’ who buy these products. It can also be much older women, or younger. Your comment is a bit like saying ‘why is someone with perfect skin, amazing face, perfect body perfect everything, when the people in the target market won’t have that.
I think most people like that a younger girl is the model, like that Marc Jacobs campaign with Dakota!
Dela – I agree entirely with your comments. I think apart from the shot of her eating pizza, she looks out of her depth. And to the comment that MM is for younger buyers, I am 40 and own several!!
By me stating that Miu Miu is the younger equivalent to the Prada Label in no means am I trying to defuse the conversation of older people not purchasing the products. I was only stating that Miu Miu is a resort to a more fresh and girly approach to high fashion. Plus, these advertisements evade a story through photographs and fantasy. The model is just a cute face masquerading the Fashion world… nothing else. If you don’t like it don’t pay attention to it. Concentrate on the products, you’re buying the clothes and the leather goods not the girl.
I Fashionly like Hailee and these ads are great. I actually want some of the pieces featured, and I usually don’t go for Miu Miu.
