I wish we could, for once, get just a simple and cute monogram bag without name tags and oversized lockits. it’s so clean, but then they felt the need to put this D-ring right front and center and hang something of it
100% agree with you! For some reason, women are obsessed with locks and name tags… sigh. And to be honest it works on certain bags but not all of them. This one, for example, would have been really cute without all this extra stuff.

People have to understand that the locks and luggage tags are an Ode to their luggage heritage. Which had luggage tags and locks. The speedy is a smaller keepall. Which is a travel bag. Which needs a lock. The Alma was made for Gabrielle Chanel to travel. The Birkin is just a smaller HAC. Jane didn’t have a whole bag made after her. Just a smaller version like they did with the keepall and Audrey Hepburn.
if you look at older bags you will find that most of them did in fact not come with a nametag. what you will notice however, is that a hotstamped item may not be returned or exchanged.
it’s not as though all bags in the past came with nametags. and the speedy was a travel bag in the sense that it was foldable and could be stored in a suitcase. the locks on older bags also were positioned logically to securely close a bag. this lockit has no actual function. it is the randomness that makes it ugly. i think everybody has heard enough about the trunk maker louis vuitton, thank you very much. the monogram by itself is steeped in history already, there is really no need to throw every other characteristc thing about the brand on that bag. people have to understand that this is lazy design to force storytelling on a bag that could’ve done without it. ten years ago, every bag had a history and story about it that you could tell. now, it is only a bag with artefacts hanging off it, rather than the bag itself telling a story.

The lock and name tag look detachable. You can use the name tag and lock on another piece, or attach another charm in its place.
The real question, to me, anyway, is how much they would’ve charged for the bag, sans lock and name tag.

I bought this bag and had regret the minute that I walked out of the store. The bag itself is lovely however, I was so disappointed in the look and feel of the canvas. It actually feels like it is getting thinner than it has ever been. Once I got the bag home and played around with all the items that I would carry in it, I realized that I would need at least an MM size which my SA advised they would likely not be releasing in the near future. So, I decided to source and purchase a gorgeous Cite MM bag in like new condition. I paid $1,100 and the canvas and leather are dreamy and feel substantiative. The size of the bag is perfection and I love it. The new “Hang On” version went back to LV and my SA was truly happy that I was able to find the Cite bag in the perfect size. I will definitely be keeping her close by as she is the best SA I have had yet.
