Loewe Introduces Its Lunar New Year Capsule Collection Honoring Traditional Chinese Craft

Every year, as most of the world’s holiday celebrations have begun to wind date, in Chinese and other Asian cultures, the most important celebration of the year is about to begin. Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year because the day marks the first new moon of the lunisolar calendar, occurs each year towards the end of January.

This year, it falls on January 29, 2025, but as we’ve come to expect, designer brands are kicking off the celebrations early. Every year, more and more luxury brands participate in the popular celebration by releasing special capsule collections full of limited-edition items to commemorate the occasion. This year, Loewe celebrates the Year of the Snake by doing just that, and we’re getting a first look at the collection before it launches on January 9.

Spring Awakening: Dance of the Snake

To coincide with the capsule collection, Loewe has also introduced a short film called ‘Spring Awakening: Dance of the Snake,’ which pays homage to traditional Chinese craft. The collection itself is inspired by the traditional ancient art of Chinese cloisonné, which is an enamel technique defined by bold colors and unique forms crafted from precious metal wire filled with colored glass paste.

For the Year of the Snake, Loewe combines its storied commitment to quality and craft with that of third-generation enameller Xiong Songtao to create two unique works of art. One is a Nest bag with a snake head and lotus cloisonné details, which is featured alongside necklaces with cloisonné pendants featuring snake, monkey, and cloud motifs.

Xiong Songtao’s creation also inspired the rest of the collection, which features an array of limited-edition bags for which Loewe fans will go crazy. Icons like the Puzzle and the Flamenco are dressed with a 3D cloud effect, while a cool new clutch in the hybrid shape of a snake and a cloud will delight.
