If you’ve spent time on social media in the past few months, the phrase ‘very demure, very mindful’ is one you are well-acquainted with. If anything, my use of it right now seems like it’s past its prime, but in the case of this new Gucci bag, it is precisely what first came to mind.
Gucci, over the past few years, medium out for its maximalism. Patterns met materials and colors to form a defining era for the brand. Plays on archival elements remain one of the most significant defining characteristics of modern-day Gucci, and we see it in the bags every season. The Gucci Emblem collection is a new family of bags that draws from iconic motifs with new and innovative functions.
Within this family, you’ll find handbags, charms, and small leather goods, some offered in full leather embossed with the GG print, some smooth leather, and others GG canvas.
I found the Gucci GG Emblem Medium Shoulder Bag in smooth black leather highly alluring. As I started off, it’s very demure and very mindful. It’s spacious on the inside yet light to carry. It slides over your shoulder with an adjustable strap and feels like a 90s or early 2000s throwback shoulder bag. It’s simple yet elegant. It’s timeless yet modern. It’s a bag I really was drawn to upon seeing and still feel strongly for.
Furthermore, with the significant movement toward accessorizing your accessory, an aptly placed ring on the exterior allows you to add bag charms with their own little home right on the front of the bag. I opted to add the dog charm because you have seen anything cuter?! Especially with the black leather, adding a special touch with the iconic House GG print allows the bag to be playful with a touch of small and monogram.
As with other designs, this plays back to the House’s equestrian roots alongside elegance and craftsmanship. An interesting feature (that could almost seem unintended) is the numbered notches on the adjustable shoulder strap. But this is absolutely intentional and plays back to the equestrian world.
On the inside, you’ll find one zip pocket secured by an easy-to-access and used zip top closure. The interior is lined with black microfiber, giving it a luxe finish, and the gold embossed Gucci logo sits on the front of the bag. Overall dimensions are 14.6″ x 9.1″H x 3.1″D.

Not trying to be negative but these seem… not special. Maybe it is just the selection chosen here, but they are painfully unimaginative. The things I really like are the charms!

I agree. It’s very much like the Coach Originals line that is out right now.
I thought the same thing (I own A LOT of Coach). I thought maybe it was a picture of the wrong bag. The Coach Cary comes to mind.
The leather emblem bags remind me of Louis Vuitton’s monogram empreinte, even down to the heavy gold chains. Ditto for the charms. And although I do like the smooth leather emblem in black, it doesn’t delight me—for the price, it should. For instance, why didn’t Gucci release it in other fun seasonal colors besides black and monogram canvas? Gucci feels overpriced and stale. Of late, they lack creativity.
I know it’s simple but it’s beautiful! I just ordered a charm because I like that best!
