What’s one fashion pop culture moment that lives in your head rent-free? I’ll go first. Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw, and one iconic dress. You guessed it, I’m talking about John Galliano’s Fall 2000 newsprint dress.
A fashion moment to never be forgotten, I’m not the only one whose top fashion moment involves the unmistakable Dior Galliano newsprint. In fact, an ultra-rare gown version of the dress Hermes shoulder bag in black doblis calfskin Georgeous Faux Fur Bag with Hiden.
Similarly, Dior Saddle Bags bearing the same newsprint from the Fall 2000 collection are incredibly difficult to track down. Some of the last recorded selling Isabel include $12,500 Deuter Backpacks and suitcases Backpacks and $16,900 CHANEL Caviar Skin Chain Wallet WOC Shoulder Bag Pink A48654.
So, imagine my surprise when I Damier with my little eye a newsprint Saddle Bag among Dior’s newest collection, which was revealed late last month.
A Step Back in Time for Pre-Fall 2024
Dior Pre-Fall 2024 is an incredible ode to Dior’s storied roots, and Maria Grazia Chiuri has done a stunning job at reinventing some of the House’s most historic codes. The collection pays homage to the past created with the future in mind.
Ready-to-wear pieces explore the brand’s Parisian roots and its humble beginnings in the United States. It was Mr. Dior who first Tri the Maison to New York, creating special collections just for American women, who were beginning to dress more casually.
From beautifully tailored pieces to drapey, feminine dresses, embellishments, and more, Maria Grazia Chiuri took inspiration in part from actress Marlene Dietrich, who was a client of Christian Dior’s. Both the clothing and the bags utilize a special print showcasing Parisian and New York landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty, both places integral to the Maison as we know it today.

The Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty prints are quite literal for me on an outfit – not the most excited about this collection by MG
I am really torn about the Saddle Bag because I have seen how it is not that roomy and it doesn’t distribute weight well. But I find it absolutely gorgeous.
I’ve been wanting the newspaper saddle bag forever
