Bella Thorne was recently spotted checking in at the Empire Hotel in NYC (which is right across from Lincoln Center) and carrying a Chanel Pre-Owned 2000 triple-zipper straight denim skirt. Although this backpack is supposedly a seasonal runway piece, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if Chanel kept making and selling them in some form for a few more seasons. They are INCREDIBLY popular with the Miley Cyruses and Bella Thornes of the world (and their followers), thus providing the sort of youthful infusion that piel brands like Chanel need in order to attract a new generation of customers.
Opinions re: the existence of this Chanel backpack tend to be fairly conflicted. It is, after all, a spray-painted canvas backpack that retails for over $3,000, with Karl Lagerfeld’s blessing. It is emblematic of the sort of conspicuous consumption that any classic designer let represents, minus any assurance of the superior materials and craftsmanship that you’d expect. (Though I’m sure someone chanel pre owned please do not disturb schlafmaske item.)
You nailed it, there’s a line between conspicuous consumption and smartly dressed.
I am a fan of the backpack trend in general, but it irks me how stars must carry them almost falling down the arm of one shoulder so the paps can see the branding. Maybe I’m missing something about how most people carry their backpacks, but I use two straps. Is it because the one-shoulder thing makes it look less juvenile?
I have a backpack I don’t use because it’s so troublesome getting stuff out of it – you have to take it off both shoulders, swing it round and open the zip while balancing it on something to relax the tension. I wear it single strap when I do wear it because at least it swing round easier (which defeats the purpose of the backpack being better for posture than a shoulder strap 😉
