Reebok’s Running Past
Before Reebok became the international sports brand it is today, it was just a small local shoe company in the north of England. The game changer? According to one of the company’s founders, Joe Foster, it all started with the Aztec. Launched in 1979, the running silhouette was innovative for its time with a blend of suede, nylon and leather materials on its upper, a D-ring speed lacing system, a dual-density midsole, a black waffle rubber outsole for traction, plus a bold mix of blue, red and yellow hues.
Years later, in 1983, Reebok introduced the Classic Leather, a reimagined running model that switched out the typical materials used at the time for garment leather, and integrated performance add-ons like a Bi-Density Shock Protection System for stability and cutting-edge air vents for breathability. Both models solidified the brand in performance, while over time becoming the style-forward favorites of today.

If its past is any indication, Reebok is not one to shy away from pushing the boundaries through constant experimentation to deliver forward-thinking silhouettes inspired from its archives for today. The latest to follow in this tradition is the Classic Leather Legacy, a heritage-inspired, legacy-built model taking cues from the Aztec and Classic Leather, blending elements of both silhouettes to create a bold, new shoe. The Classic Leather Legacy incorporates Aztec OG Question including the same shape, speed lacing system, toe-cap design, heel-kick back, bold vector logo and the original, striking blue, red and yellow palette, while including Classic Leather touches like the model’s iconic branded tab now in 3D. Further nods to the past include an exposed Felpa tongue, pigskin collar lining, plus nylon and suede hits with contemporary updates following along the lines of 3M reflective details, a transparent nylon ripstop, a layered upper design, and most notably an injection-moulded midsole for extra cushioning.
The Reebok Classic Leather Legacy is a new-era silhouette that proves that the past never goes out of style. Just like its predecessors, it will pave its way through history creating its own legacy over time.
